But with many people not having an adequately designed office space with the right kind of ergonomic features, this has led to a massive uptick in computer-related injuries.

As some workplaces remain remote for the foreseeable future, implementing smart practices now could save you from a world of pain.

 

Muscle and Joint Injuries

 

While you might feel reasonably comfortable sitting at your kitchen table, there is a good chance you�re straining your back and neck muscles unnecessarily. The best way to avoid this is by investing in a height-adjustable table that ensures you can place your computer at or slightly lower than eye level.

 

You must also have a chair that is not too high off the ground. Ideally, you can adjust your chair to allow you to place both your feet flat on the floor. This helps to keep your pelvis balanced and your lower back slightly arched.

 

It is also a good idea to stand up and move around every 30 minutes. Not only does this help you live a less sedentary lifestyle, but it gives your limbs a chance to stretch and reset.

 

Hand and Arm Injuries

 

While most people are concerned with their neck and shoulders when working from home, the hands and arms are also commonly injured. With most of this damage caused by overuse, it is not uncommon for remote workers to suffer from numbness and painful swelling.

 

To avoid this, make sure your keyboard is easily within reach while being at a height where your elbows can rest by your sides. You should also have your mouse at the same height as your keyboard, so you do not have to reach and stretch every time you move the cursor.

 

As there is a good chance you spend hours typing every day, when you have a free moment, remember to remove your hands from the keyboard to give your arms a chance to rest.
